- We currently think the world will produce 174.4m tonnes of sugar in 2021/22, up 700k tonnes year-on-year.
CS Brazil should be the world’s largest producer, churning out 32.5m tonnes of sugar in total, although its production has been hit by torrid conditions (drought, fire, and frost).
Thailand, however, is preparing for a rebound (10mmt), with two drought-hit seasons behind it.
As for consumption, we currently think the world will consume 173.9m tonnes in 2021/22, up 3.5m tonnes year-on-year. This rebound comes after COVID restrictions in 2020/21 hurt out-of-home sugar consumption in most parts of the world.
