Iran’s Agriculture Ministry Plans to Cut Sugar Imports with Increased Domestic Output

An official at the Iranian agriculture ministry (MAJ) says the domestic output of sugar would be enough to meet some 70% of the country’s demand for the produce in the fiscal year to March 2020. MAJ’s Sugar Beet Contractor Peyman Hessadi said that Iran expects the total sugar output from beets to reach up to one million metric tons this calendar year. However, increased local production means Iran can cut its massive sugar imports bills, especially when it is facing financial problems settling payments with Indian merchants because of U.S. sanctions.

‘Aggressive’ Plan For $115 Billion India, UAE Trade in Five Years

India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have drawn up an “aggressive and ambitious” time frame aiming to conclude a comprehensive trade negotiation by December 2021 and sign a formal free trade agreement in the early part of 2022 to achieve over $115 billion bilateral trade in five years. UAE is the eighth largest investor in India, with investments worth $11 billion between April 2000 and March 2021.

Biden Administration Mulls Big Cuts to Biofuel Mandates in Win for Oil Industry

Joe Biden’s administration is considering big cuts to the nation’s biofuel blending requirements, a move triggered by a broad decline in gasoline demand during the coronavirus pandemic. After Reuters reported the news, credits used to prove compliance with the requirements, called RINs, fell to 92 cents each, down from $1.07 in the previous session. The policy is intended to help the country’s farmers while also reducing the need for U.S. petroleum imports.

Study To Build Bio-Based Ethylene and PE Project in Thailand / JV with SCG Chemicals

Brazilian petrochemicals and plastics producer Braskem and Thailand’s SCG Chemicals are studying the construction of a JV bio-ethanol dehydration plant for the production of bio-based ethylene and PE. Braskem said it would contribute with its technology and know-how in ethanol dehydration and its bio-based PE marketing expertise, while SCG Chemicals would bring its PE units and production expertise to manufacture the bio-based PE. The partners have executed a memorandum of understanding to perform feasibility studies to jointly invest in the project.

Ethanol-Petrol Blending Causing Breakdown of Vehicles?

Nowadays, petrol is being blended with 10% Ethanol. This blending is being done by the oil marketing companies in their terminals and is not something new as it’s used worldwide. There have been incidents of vehicle owners questioning water in the petrol and breakdown of their vehicles. However, an OMC official denied the charges and claimed that the problem happened if petrol dealers did not follow the standard operating processes (SOP) or if water entered the fuel tank while washing the vehicle.

Indian Food Grain Production Estimated to Reach New High Of 150m Tonnes in 2021/22

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare released the first advance estimates of production of major Kharif crops for 2021-22, with the total food grain production estimated to reach a new high of 150.50 million tonnes. However, Kharif oilseed production is estimated at 2.33 million, which is lower than its target of 26 million tonnes and last year’s production of 24.03 million tonnes.

Bangladesh Issues Tender Buy 50kmt Rice with Land Transport

Bangladesh’s state grains buyer has issued an international tender to purchase 50,000 tonnes of rice. The tender seeks import by land transport by railway. Traders said this would mean Indian rice would be likely to be supplied. The new tender seeks price offers for non-basmati parboiled rice, and loading of the first 50% of the purchase is required 25 days after contract award.

The Philippines Purchases 112kmt of Feed Wheat

An importer group in the Philippines bought an estimated 112,000 tonnes of animal feed wheat in a tender that closed on Wednesday. Two 56,000 tonne consignments for shipment in December 2021 and January 2022 were bought in the low $350s a tonne c&f.

Evian Unveils Prototype of ‘100% rPET Bottle’

Tesco Launches New Recycled Packaging Trial to Cut Plastic Waste

McDonald’s Aims to Cut 90% Of Virgin Plastic from Happy Meal Toys

Fast-food giant McDonald’s announced plans to further reduce the amount of fossil fuel-based plastic in their Happy Meal toys within four years. The company said the plan aims to cut out 90% of virgin fossil fuel-based plastics in Happy Meal toys by the end of 2025. McDonald’s said it’s already cut virgin plastics in Happy Meal toys by 30% since 2018.

Dairy Prices Rise at Global Auction; Demand Is ‘Hot’

Dairy prices rose at the global auction overnight, showing demand remains “hot” for New Zealand’s biggest export commodity. The average price for whole milk powder, which has the most impact on what farmers are paid, increased 2.2 percent to an average of US$3777 (NZ$5383) a tonne, with gains across all contract periods. The average price is sitting 26 percent higher than at the same time last year.

Zimbabwe: Dairbord to Launch $1.5m New Plant
