Ida Damaged 118,000 Acres of Sugarcane Crops in Louisiana

According to a recent report, Hurricane Ida negatively impacted an estimated 118,000 acres (478 square kilometres) of sugarcane crops in Louisiana, or about 26% of the crop that would be harvested for sugar production in the state. The projection, produced by the Louisiana State University (LSU) and the industry group Sugar League, says that the area hit by the storm will have agricultural yield losses ranging from 16% to as high as 29%.

Brazil’s Sugar Production to See Mild Recovery in 2022/23

According to sugar analyst, CovrigAnalytics, CS Brazil will likely produce 34.17 million tonnes of sugar in the 2022/23 season, just a bit more than the 33.06 million tonnes projected for the current crop. Brazil’s CS sugarcane crop in the current season is projected to fall by more than 12% to the smallest in a decade, as a harsh drought and frosts reduced production potential.

Sri Lanka Permits Sugar Imports, Again

The Government suspended the import of sugar a few months ago and set a control price for sugar. The available stocks of sugar in the country will be sufficient for about another two and a half months. However, permission has been granted to import more sugar in the future to boost the supply.

Invention Seeks to Greatly Expand Use of Ethanol

Thomas Quinn has developed the Rejected Energy Reactor concept to produce alcohol that can be used as fuel. His process uses organic materials to produce alcohol and water. The alcohol becomes fuel for engines that can run on 100% ethanol. He also adds that engines that can run on pure alcohol are very efficient and competitive.

Aemetis Biogas Signs Utility Pipeline Interconnect Agreement

Aemetis Inc. recently announced that its subsidiary Aemetis Biogas LLC has signed the standard renewable gas interconnection agreement (SRGIA) with the Pacific Gas & Electric Company and paid for the PG&E’s interconnection equipment. When fully built out, the planned 52 dairies in the Aemetis biogas project are expected to capture more than 1.4 million MMBtu of dairy methane and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to an estimated 5.2 million metric tons of CO2 each year, equal to removing the emissions from approximately 1.1 million cars per year.

Biofuel Groups Call on Lawmakers to Fix Saf Legislation

A group of nine biofuel and ag groups are calling lawmakers to fix serious flaws in pending legislation that could possibly leave American farmers and biofuel producers cut out of the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market. The groups want the current legislative proposals to encourage SAF under consideration for inclusion in the budget reconciliation and FY 22 National Defense Authorization Act be amended to rely on the most updated and accurate science-based lifecycle carbon assessment (LCA) methods.

Have French Fuel Prices Really Reached €2 Per Litre?

Fuel prices have been constantly rising in France with some motorists reporting that prices at the pump are about €2 a litre. In the most expensive petrol stations in Paris, a litre of petrol will cost you up to €1.99, Le Parisien. On the Ile d’Yeu in Vendée off the western coast of France, prices have even passed the symbolic threshold of €2, although this is partly down to its isolation. In general, the highest prices are to be found in the capital and along France’s motorways.

Wheat Rises For 3rd Session on Supply Concerns; Corn, Soybeans Firm

Farmers in Brazil Begin Planting Soybeans

Occasional rain showers in soybean areas has enabled some soy growers to start sowing their new 2021/2022 crop. The first fields in the west and southwest of Paraná began to be planted, as these areas received more volumes of rain in recent days. Brazil is expected to harvest a record grain crop of 289.6 million tonnes in 2021/2022, driven by higher soybean and corn production.

Kazakhstan Harvested 12 Mln Tonnes of Grain as of Mid-September

Accroding to the ministry of Agriculture, Kazakhstan farmers harvested grains and pulses throughout 13.2 mln ha or 83.3% of the forecast. The production volume reached 12 mln tonnes of grain with the average yield of 0.91 t/ha.

ALPLA, Ecohelp and UPT Launch Joint PET Recycling Operations in Romania

The ALPLA Group is investing in the construction of a recycling plant in Targu Mures, Romania as part of a joint venture with its partners. The plastic granulate recycled there will come from PET bottles collected from household waste and will be used to manufacture new PET bottles. The entire amount being invested in the plant and the associated building and infrastructure comes to roughly €7.5 million.

China Ramps Up Efforts to Tackle Plastic Pollution with Five-Year Action Plan

PepsiCo to Use 50% Recycled Content in Plastic Packaging by 2030

PepsiCo announced that it’s planning on making its packaging more sustainable across its food and beverage portfolio. As part of this, PepsiCo will make its plastic packaging 50% from recycled materials and halve its use of ‘virgin’ plastic, which is not made from recycled goods, by 2030. By next year, the company will move key Pepsi-branded products in 11 European markets to fully recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) bottles.

Srichakra Polyplast Commissions Food-Grade Plastic Recycling Facility, Invests $10 Million

Milk Futures Higher, Cash Dairy Trade Mixed
