- Europe should produce 11.7m tonnes of Apple Juice Concentrate in 2020/21, up 1m tonnes year-on-year.

Polish Apple Production Thrives in Warm Weather
- Poland, Europe’s largest apple producer, should produce 4.17m tonnes of Apple Juice Concentrate (AJC) in 2020/21, up 1.27m tonnes year-on-year.
- The region has been graced with optimal weather conditions for apple cultivation (warm and sunny).
- The country’s soil health is also better than it was in the drier 2019/20 season.
- We’re therefore seeing Polish producers sell high-acid concentrate at high prices, and this should remain the case until the middle of next month.
- The more acidic concentrates are fetching more than other varieties at present.
China’s Struggles Bode Well for European Producers
- Demand of AJC has weakened across Europe throughout the pandemic, as reduced out-of-home consumption limited the food and beverage producers’ needs.
- However, now restrictions are easing across Europe, we think demand will increase.
- There’s even scope for Poland, and other European suppliers, to export to regions that are usually satisfied by Chinese supply.
- This is most prevalent for the USA as, ever since Trump implemented the 25% import duty on Chinese AJC, importers have been less keen to buy from China.
- China’s also struggling to export at present, as, like many, it’s unable to source containers and its ports are heavily congested.
