- The queue in Santos is reducing due to better efficiency and also less anticipated nominations.
- The result is T-12A terminal being plugged and others at the risk.
- Although 590kmt were nominated this week, the volume is expected to sail within the month.
Queue at Santos is Shrinking
Waiting Time – From 45 to less than 20 days at Rumo
- The long queue at Santos shrank significantly this month.
- This is due to one more terminal (T-12A) to service of sugar and strong pace of port operations.
- There is also less vessels being nominated ahead – the line-up in the past months would extend 1-2 months forward, now nominations are within the current month: most of September nominations are for the end of the month.
2020 Santos Exports per Terminal – T-12A commissioned for sugar since July
- The long queue represented a continuous guarantee outflow, but now if there is any interruption/gap at the queue there is a likelihood for terminals being plugged, as sugar production pace is still strong.
- Which is the case of T-12A terminal, a gap in its loading schedule resulted in the terminal being stuck with no intake capacity and briefly no outflow – operations are expected to resume this Tuesday (22/09).
- The only exception is Rumo, which still has a substantial backlog of vessels so the risk of pluggin is lower.
Strong Exports YoY
Cumulative CS Exports – So far, double of 19/20
- Despite the current situation at Santos port, up till now operations have kept the strong pace.
- Until the end of September, CS is expected to export 14.7mmt – almost twice for the same period in 19/20.
