Uganda Search for Lasting Solution to Sugar Surplus
- Uganda is now a surplus producer of sugar.
- The Ministry of Trade’s statistics show that Uganda produces approximately 510k tonnes of sugar, 360k tonnes of which is consumed domestically.
- The surplus of 150k tonnes is exported within East Africa.
World Record Maize Harvest Expected
- Led by expectations for a record world maize harvest, global total grains (wheat and coarse grains) production in 2020/21 is forecast to increase by 48m t y/y, to a new peak of 2,225m.
- Total consumption could climb by 39m t, to 2,218m, with most of the gain for feed and industrial uses of maize.
Brazil’s Sugar Output Rises 55% in 1H July at the Expense of Ethanol
- CS Brazilian mills produced 3.02m tonnes of sugar in the first half of July, up 55% year-on-year.
- Ethanol production fell by 2.3% in the same window to 2.12b litres.
US Milk Prices Take a Tumble; Irish Market Steadies
- More of the big co-ops, such as Carbery and Dairygold, increased prices for June milk last week.
- Carbery said that, if their increase of 0.5cpl is replicated across the Bandon, Barryroe, Drinagh and Lisavaird Co-ops, this will result in an average price for June of 31.9cpl, including VAT.
- This price includes a 1cpl increase in the base price and a reduction of 0.5cpl in support being paid from the stability fund (1cpl in support is paid from the stability fund), giving a net increase of 0.5cpl.
