As it stands, the first half of June should be dry in CS Brazil, with heavy rains arriving on the 17th. However, weather forecasts are very volatile and can change in a flash…
So, generally speaking, there should be less rain now it’s entering its winter; this is typically a dry season for the region.
Rain should pick up again in September, but the cane season will be nearing its end at this point. This is why CS Brazil’s crush is concentrated between April and November; the other months are too rainy to operate.
Dry weather between September and April last year led to poor agricultural yields in the region. This period of lower rainfall could therefore mean they suffer more than they have done already going forward.
All in all, we think CS Brazil will produce 561m tonnes of cane in 2021/22, down 44m tonnes year-on-year.
From this, it should produce 35.7m tonnes of sugar, down 2.7m tonnes year-on-year.
