  • India should produce 26.5m tonnes of sugar this season.
  • As of the 21st April, their production totalled 24.8m tonnes, down 6.4m tonnes year-on-year (YoY).
  • This means the 139 mills that are still operational have approximately 2m tonnes of sugar left to produce.
  • Mills in Uttar Pradesh (UP) are setting the pace here, with crushing in Karnataka complete, and Maharashtra’s mills nearing completion.
  • We suspect UP to account for over 80% of India’s remaining sugar production.
