Summary Table 2H May
Another Record Sugar Output
- Crushing totalled 42.2mmt in the 2H of May – rains in the middle of the fortnight impacted operations, which is why the figure is 5% below yoy.
- Nonetheless, the remainder of the period was sunny enough to allow for a high efficiency.
- It has been raining below average in CS for the past 4 months – see our weekly weather update at Czapp Interactive Data.
- Although the lack of rains is beneficial for harvesting operations and cane quality (read ATR), mills are reporting concerns over cane ag. yields from August onwards.
- As CS enters the winter season, the likelihood of rains occurring diminishes – which means that perhaps the damage is done in some areas.
- As expected, CS is maximizing sugar production – another fortnight of record sugar output at 2.5mmt.
- The cumulative mix in the 2H of May reached 45.9%, which is the highest level since 2006/07.
Ethanol Market
- Hydrous sales by the mills reached 1.45bi litres in May.
- Although it is a decrease of 30% yoy, the daily sales figure shows that a recovery is occurring.
