• The dry weather provided a strong crushing rhythm and a high concentration of sugar in the cane.
  • This resulted in 41.1mmt of processed cane, and 2.38mmt of sugar produced.
  • In addition to a 1.82bi of ethanol.

Better but not so much

  • CS crushing has progressed this fortnight – 41mmt was processed, in line with last year’s volume.
  • This is due to the dry weather, which left the mills to operate with few interruptions, and to an improvement in the quality of the cane (higher ATR):
    • In this fortnight the ATR reached 131.6kg/tc against 131.1kg/tc for the same period of 2020/21
    • However, the state of São Paulo, which represents 58% of the processed sugarcane of the CS, the ATR had a retraction of 1.56%.

  • However, do not cheer up, the cumulative crushing until 1H of May is still 16.24% below in relation to the previous cycle.
  • Dry weather delayed the start of the harvest and impacted the productivity of the cane fields:
    • The Center of Technology of Cane (CTC) saw a 12.8% drop in productivity, 73.22t/ha from 83.96t/ha from the previous harvest in April.
  • With this in mind, we expect a harvest break of 8%: we estimate 558.2 mmt of sugarcane processed for the 2021/22 crop.

Ethanol Market

  • The average parity in São Paulo remains at 77.7% – a level where biofuel is no longer considered attractive to the driver.
undefined

  • However, even with the parity above 70%, sales continue to positively surprise, totaling 1.18 billion liters – 10.35% higher than the first half of May of the 20/21 crop.
