Crushing Pace Surprisingly Strong 

  • The 20/21 season is coming to its last stages, 80 mills ended operations in the first half of November.
  • So far, already 147 units closed for the crop – against 126 last year for the same period.
  • This early closure is due to the dry weather throughout the season that allowed the mills to push crushing pace.

  • Although the high number of mills ending the season, this fornight had a strong volume of cane processed: 20.34 mmt, 2.2% more yoy.
  • So far, cumulative crushing stands at 585.7 mmt, up by 3.69% yoy.

  • The dry spell is also pushing sugar content within cane (ATR): an increase of 4.55% to 153kg/mtc.
  • Strong crush, high sugar mix and sugar content led to a cumulative sugar production of 37.7mmt – against 26.1 mmt in the same period last season.

  • If crush is strong in March, CS could see total sugar production in 20/21 surpassing 38mmt.

  • Mills’ hydrous domestic sales registered 791 mi litres in October, a fall of 17.26% regarding the same period from last year.
