What have you been up to?
Pest control is one of the priorities of this period. We placed 200 cages on 100 mu (6.67ha) of cane land, each cage traps 100 adult stem borers. It’s a green attractant, friendly to the environment.
What Are Your Concerns?
From mid-February to mid-March, Guangxi Meteorological Bureau reported that the rainfall in sugarcane areas was 84.4% less than normal, which was the lowest in the history of the same period.
I felt it too, filled with the fear of another dry year.
By mid-March, we completed the work of loosening the soil and preparing the land for planting. Everything is all set except for the rains.
In early March there was only a light drizzle, not even enough to keep the dust out of the air.
The water level of the Nanjiang River continues to drop. Our pump is now exposed to the air.
What’s worse, the cables were stolen from the three pump rooms.
Last week, the meteorological department made artificial rain, which finally eased the drought.
Innovations?
It took three months to fill the last hole. Thanks to my fellow villagers for providing the dregs for the foundation and the land department for providing fertile topsoil. Although it costs a fortune to change the land, but the results are gratifying.
