- In recent years, Malaysia became the world’s main destination for plastic waste after China banned imports of scrap.
- It has recently been negotiating with origin countries to take back hundreds of containers of plastic that entered the country illegally.
- 110 containers of hazardous heavy metals entered Malaysia.

- An aggregates carrier caught in rough weather drifted towards the shore and hit the rocks at Masalembu Island (Indonesia) on 24th July.
- The ship partially sank but the cargo may still be salvaged.

- This has the potential to become just the third hurricane in modern history to make landfall in Hawaii.
The Port of Los Angeles Misses Out on Chinese Imports
- With China being by far the leading source for imports into the Port of Los Angeles, the early impact of coronavirus was substantial.
- TEU volumes dropped nearly 100k tonnes per month, leading to a total decline of 388k tonnes, or 21.1%, compared to 2019.
- Imports from China accounted for most of this decline, with total volumes dropping 227k during the first five months of the pandemic.
