A Quick Production Update

  • Mexico’s crop should bring some relief to the short global supply, but the production numbers are still unclear.
  • Demand will be strong, especially in the US, as the Indian Alphonso Mango crop was already sold out forward between 75-120%.
  • India’s Totapuri crop is still running, however, processing 40% of 2019’s volume.
  • India’s estimated production volume for 2020 could be less than 15k tonnes, compared to the 50k tonnes achieved in 2019.
  • Stocks of both mango puree and concentrate could be completely sold out by September 2020 until the new crop in June 2021.
  • Further allocations will depend on Mexico’s production, as Colombia will only achieve 60% of its projected volume and it’s already sold out.

Looking Ahead…

  • Tanzania and Kenya will begin mango processing sometime between October and February 2021 for pulp on single strength and some limited quantities for concentrate.
  • The varieties considered are Virenge/Ngowe, which has a similar taste of Totapuri Mango from India.
  • Dodo and Boribo will replicate a grade of the Alphonso variety.
