• Hurricane Eta reached category 5 as it reached Nicaragua yesterday. 
  • It should continue moving north across Honduras and Guatemala. 
  • We don’t think sugar production will be directly affected as most of the crops are nearer the Pacific coasts. 
  • Howeverk, damage to local infrastructure (roads damage, landslides, etc.) could delay the start of the crop in some places. 
  • The Centrals’ producers should start harvesting between mid and late November, usually producing a combined total of 5m tonnes. 
  • Most of this sugar is destined for the US, Canada, South Korea, West Africa and the Caribbean.
