- Hurricane Eta reached category 5 as it reached Nicaragua yesterday.
- It should continue moving north across Honduras and Guatemala.
- We don’t think sugar production will be directly affected as most of the crops are nearer the Pacific coasts.
- Howeverk, damage to local infrastructure (roads damage, landslides, etc.) could delay the start of the crop in some places.
- The Centrals’ producers should start harvesting between mid and late November, usually producing a combined total of 5m tonnes.
- Most of this sugar is destined for the US, Canada, South Korea, West Africa and the Caribbean.
