- Thai mills have started the crushing process much earlier this year.
- Although we are expecting a smaller crop, mills have started the season at a faster pace.
- Reduced cane production increases competition for cane, causing the fast start as mills try to ensure supply.
Production Summary: Early Crush
- The 19/20 crush started on 1st December 2019 and, at present, our cane expectation is 99.6m tonnes.
- While the crop has started slightly later than last year the crushing pace has picked up very quickly.
Thailand Daily Crushing Rate
- 44 mills have already started their crush, compared to the mere 10 mills that had started after 10 days of crushing last crop.
- The expected reduction in cane number has meant that mills are competing for cane and have started quickly to try and secure as much cane as possible.
Thailand Sugar Production by Region
- Most of the sugar production has occurred in the North-East region, as mills have picked up production there quickly.
- This is again significantly higher than the 18/19 crop year as more mills started their crushing early in this crop year.
Thailand Total Production Split
- Total sugar production has reached 294k tonnes compared to 107k tonnes at the same stage, currently 85% of production is as raws, slightly less than last season.
