Ukraine Expects 2021/22 Beet Sugar Output to Rise 27% to 1.4 mln T

The economy ministry said that Ukraine, which has already started 2021 sugar beet processing, also has 422,000 tonnes of white sugar in stocks while local needs are below 1.25 million tonnes for the whole 2021/22 season. Although the economy ministry did not explain the higher output, the agriculture ministry said that farmers increased the area under beet to 227,100 hectares in 2021 from 201,600 hectares last year.

Sugar Can Be Sold at Rs.90 Per Kilo

UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene, during a virtual meeting with a group of UNP activists yesterday, said that the price of a kilo of sugar has really hiked. He says when the government had good governance, the price of a kilo of sugar was around Rs. 85 and 75 compared to the current Rs.130.

CAA Cracks Down on Three Warehouses Storing 5,400 Tonnes Sugar

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said that the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) recently cracked down on three warehouses with unlawfully stored 5,400 tonnes of sugar in Gampaha and Seeduwa. The Minister told a news conference that his office had talks with the Attorney General regarding steps to be taken to institute legal action against the operators of these warehouses.

Ethanol Group Requests Ida Fuel Waiver

This might cause many gasoline stations in the area to be short of fuel supplies. Grain Harvesting 63% Completed in Russia by Late August

The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported that Russia harvested grains and pulses throughout 29.9 mln ha (63.6% of the plan) as of August 23, 2021. This is up by 13.5% compared to the same date last year. Production volume totaled 84.7 mln tonnes of grains and pulses (in initial weight), down 3.2%, including 62.2 mln tonnes of wheat, down 5%.

Algeria Bought About 390,000 To 400,000 Tonnes Wheat on Tuesday

European traders said that Algeria’s state grains agency OAIC purchased around 390,000 to 400,000 tonnes of optional-origin milling wheat in an international tender. Estimates of volumes bought on Tuesday evening started around 270,000 tonnes but trader assessments on Wednesday were generally higher at between 390,000 to 400,000 tonnes.

Swedish Recycling Facility to Double in Capacity

Site Zero, a world-leading plastics recycling facility in Motala, Sweden plans on doubling its capacity as part of a planned SEK 1 billion ($116 million) investment. This will enable the facility to recycle 12 types of plastics packaging once the upgrade is completed in 2023. Doubling its capacity to handle 200,000 tonnes of plastics packaging per year will create the conditions needed for receiving and eventually recycling all types plastics packaging from Swedish households, said SPR chief executive Mattias Philipsson.

Dairy Farmers Hard Hit by Centre’s Taxation Plan

The Central government will soon start taxing dairy cooperatives receiving more than 400 litres of milk a day, which will likely affect the earnings of most dairy farmers. This will force an individual dairy farmer with the cooperative, to compromise their earnings in lieu of cooperative’s tax return. The bonus amount to be received by the farmer from the cooperative’s profit will be used up for the payment of the returns.
